TRAVELLING WITH YOUR DOG, CAT OR FERRET

 

Conditions for non-commercial movement of animal pets from EU-countries and Andorra, Switzerland, Faeroe Islands, Gibraltar, Greenland. Iceland, Liechtenstein, Monaco, Norway, San Marino, Vatican City State

 

For non-commercial movement of animal the following conditions/requirements have to be fulfilled:

1) the animal pets have been permanently identified- microchip;

2) the animal pet has been vaccinated or revaccinated against rabies by using registered inactivated vaccine containing minimum one antigen unit per dose (WHO standard) or a recombinant vaccine expressing the immunising glycoprotein of the rabies virus in a live virus vector and that 21 days have passed since the vaccination, in case of the first vaccination against rabies;

3) they comply with any preventive health measures for diseases or infections other than rabies;

2) the animal pets are accompanied by duly completed passport issued by the competent/authorized veterinarian of specific country.

If animal pets are less than 12 weeks old or between 12 and 16 weeks old they can enter if:

a) on the basis of the attached documents can be determined that since birth pets have not changed residence and have not been in contact with wild animals that could be infected with rabies, and

b) they are imported together with the mother of which still depend and from the passport that accompany their mother it can be established that, before their birth, the mother received an anti-rabies vaccination.

Pet animals, dogs, cats and ferrets do not need to be accompanied by veterinary certificate.

 

Conditions for non-commercial movement of animal pets from the territories or countries listed in Annex 2

 

For non-commercial movement of animal the following conditions/requirements have to be fulfilled:

 

1) the animal pets have been permanently identified- microchip;

2) the animal pet has been vaccinated or revaccinated against rabies by using registered inactivated vaccine containing minimum one antigen unit per dose (WHO standard) or a recombinant vaccine expressing the immunising glycoprotein of the rabies virus in a live virus vector and that 21 days have passed since the vaccination, in case of the first vaccination against rabies;

3) they comply with any preventive health measures for diseases or infections other than rabies;

4) that animal pets are accompanied by certificate issued by the competent authority of specific country.

If countries listed in Annex 2 have favorable epyzootiological situation in regard to rabies, animal pets younger than than 12 weeks old or between 12 and 16 weeks old they can enter if:

 

a) on the basis of the attached documents can be determined that since birth pets have not changed residence and have not been in contact with wild animals that could be infected with rabies, and

b) they are imported together with the mother of which still depend and from the passport that accompany their mother it can be established that, before their birth, the mother received an anti-rabies vaccination.

Conditions for non-commercial movement of animal pets from non-listed countries

 

For non-commercial movement of animal the following conditions/requirements have to be fulfilled:

 

1) animal pets have been permanently identified - microchip;

2)  the animal pet has been vaccinated or revaccinated against rabies by using registered inactivated vaccine containing minimum one antigen unit per dose (WHO standard) or a recombinant vaccine expressing the immunising glycoprotein of the rabies virus in a live virus vector;

3) they comply with any preventive health measures for diseases or infections other than rabies;

3) the animal pet have been subjected to antibody titre testing of blood serum for titre of specific neutralizing antibodies against rabies virus, where limit titre is minimum 0,5 IU/ml , in laboratory authorized by European Union, at least 30 days subsequent to vaccination and three months before exportation, however, testing of the blood serum should not be repeated in case of animals which have been regularly re-vaccinated after the last titration in intervals as determined in the instruction of the vaccine manufacturer, and in case of repeated importation of animal pets, the fact of blood serum testing is confirmed by passport.

4)  that animal pets are accompanied by certificate issued by the competent authority of specific country.

Travelling with other pets

 

For non-commercial movement of other pet animals the following conditions/requirements have to be fulfilled:

 

1) animal pets have been identified or described;

2) they comply with any preventive health measures for diseases or infections of concerned species;

3) that animal pets are accompanied by certificate issued by the competent authority of specific country.

Commercial travelling

 

This applies when the animal is meant to be passed on/sold.

 

Importer has to apply for import license. The request is submitted to the Veterinary Directorate. The request has to be submitted by person or shipper from Serbia. It takes 10 working to issue import license.Form of request is published on the web site of Veterinary Directorate http://www.vet.minpolj.gov.rs/srb/uputstva-i-zahtevi-za-izdavanje-resenja.

Conditionsfor importare the same as for non-commercial travelling. In each case certificate has to accompany animal.
